Legal Artivism

The Legal Artivism program is a nine-month residency designed to promote access to justice for socio-economically marginalized and BIPOC youth through a unique fusion of art, law, and social justice. Led by R.I.S.E. Edutainment in partnership with the Black Legal Action Centre (BLAC) and the Ontario Justice Education Network (OJEN), the program empowers emerging artists to use their creative mediums.Such as poetry, Hip-Hop, R&B, and visual art as tools for justice education.

Program Journey & Impact

Participants engage in a year-long journey involving legal education workshops, research, and professional mentorship. This culminates in a public showcase where "Legal Artivists" present their work to educate their peers while entertaining them. Standout achievements from the program include:

• The Legal Artivism Album: A groundbreaking project featuring tracks that address critical issues like housing (e.g., "Home" by Moko), employment law ("Finesse" by King of Heartz), and child welfare ("bill c-92" by machiinegunfunkk).

• Documentary Production: A film titled "RISEN," which documents the journey of the eight artists as they transition into Legal Artivist
